Watts vs watt-hours, in one page

Two numbers, two questions

  • Watt-hours (Wh) — how much energy is stored. Answers how long.
  • Watts (W) — how much power can be delivered at once. Answers how many things at the same time.

A 1,000 Wh station can run a 100 W load for roughly 8–9 hours (after losses). It cannot run a 2,000 W load at all, whatever its capacity, if its output limit is 1,500 W.

How to find your device's watts

Look for a label or the manual. If you only see volts and amps, multiply them. Motors and compressors start with a surge higher than their running draw.

Safety

Never connect a station to a home electrical panel without a licensed electrician and the maker's approved arrangement.
